The HYTRADBOI logo is a hand raising up a floppy disk through a circle of flames.

Thank you for making a talk for HYTRADBOI 2025!

When you're ready you can use this form to upload your recording. Please do this by Jan 28 - this will give me time to generate and (sadly) hand-correct all the captions before the last-minute conference prep starts.

I also encourage sharing a first draft of your talk, either with me or with anyone else who isn't an expert in your particular area. The curse of knowledge makes it hard to predict whether something will be obvious or whether you need to add more context.

Feel free to experiment with content and format. What you talk about doesn't have to be novel, successful, or measurable. There is plenty of room for distilling folk wisdom, reporting failed experiments, and sharing vague hunches.

That said, please do avoid talks that are only sales pitches for a product or project. As a heuristic: if the product/project you're talking about vanished tomorrow, would the talk still be worth watching years later?

Finally, some tedious technical requirements for the recording:

  • Keep it under 10 minutes. (If you go over a little just speed the recording up slightly.)
  • Record at (or downsample to) 1080p.
  • Trying watching the talk on a small screen. Is everything still readable? Is the text big enough?
  • Ideally, use MP4, M4V, or MOV for the container and h.264 or HEVC for the codec. If you use something else I can always reformat it, but we'll lose some quality in the process.
  • Ideally, avoid recording audio with the microphone built in to your laptop. Literally any other recording device will produce noticably better audio quality.

At some point before the conference I'll email you an invitation to the chat where you can hang out and answer questions. After the conference, all the talks will be uploaded to hytradboi.com/2025.

That's all. Thanks again!
